Search Nevada LLC & Corporation Records
Nevada’s current business search and filing system is ORION. Use the public search to find LLCs, corporations, partnerships and other registered entities, then review the entity number, NV Business ID, status, registered agent, managers or officers, business-license information and filing history.
Older Nevada guides may still send you to SilverFlume or legacy eSOS pages. For current filings and business searches, start with the Nevada Secretary of State’s ORION and Business Hub resources.
Best starting point: search the legal business name in ORION. If several similar entities appear, compare the entity number, NV Business ID, type, formation date, registered agent and status before relying on any result.
Most useful identifiers: Nevada uses both an Entity Number and an NV Business ID. They are not the same number, and the NV Business ID is commonly used in registrations with other Nevada agencies.
Nevada-specific compliance point: for most Title 7 businesses, the annual list and State Business License renewal are connected. A business can have a filing-status problem, a business-license problem, or both.
How to Search Nevada Business Records in ORION
The public ORION search does not require you to create a filing account just to look up a business. Start broad and narrow only when the result list requires it.
- Open the official ORION Business Search.
- Use the Business search tab.
- Enter the entity name or the exact identifier you already have.
- If you are unsure of the legal name, search the distinctive words rather than a long full name.
- Use ORION’s available match options or Advanced Search when the first search is too broad.
- Open the matching entity and compare its identifiers, type, formation date, status and registered agent.
- Save both the Entity Number and NV Business ID before ordering documents or making a filing.
Entity Number vs NV Business ID
Nevada assigns more than one identifier, and mixing them up is a common source of filing and verification errors.
| Identifier | What it means | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Entity Number | A number assigned to a Title 7 business entity in the Nevada Secretary of State record. | Returning to one exact SOS entity record, filings and entity-specific research. |
| NV Business ID | A unique Nevada business identification number assigned to the entity. | Nevada agency registration workflows and cross-agency business identification. |
| EIN / FEIN | A federal tax identifier issued through the IRS. | Federal tax and banking matters; it is not the same as either Nevada SOS identifier. |

Nevada Entity Status and State Business License Are Related but Different
The Nevada entity search can show both the entity’s business status and State Business License information. Do not assume an entity status alone answers every licensing question.
Entity status
This reflects the Secretary of State entity record, including whether required entity filings are current, in default, revoked, dissolved or otherwise changed.
State Business License
Nevada generally requires a State Business License for businesses operating in the state unless a statutory exemption applies. The business search can display the license’s expiration or exempt status.
For Title 7 entities such as LLCs and corporations, State Business License renewal is tied to the Initial or Annual List filing. The license cannot normally be treated as an entirely separate annual obligation.
Nevada Annual List Deadlines & Recurring Costs
Nevada does not use a single December 31 deadline. The annual list is generally due by the last day of the entity’s anniversary month, unless an approved alternative due date applies.
| Entity | Annual list | State Business License | Typical recurring state total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nevada LLC | $150 | $200 | $350 per year |
| Corporation | Starts at $150 and can increase based on authorized shares, up to the statutory maximum. | $500 | At least $650 for corporations at the lowest annual-list tier. |
The Secretary of State says the State Business License renewal fee is due on the last day of the anniversary month and, for Title 7 entities, coincides with the annual-list due date.
Common Nevada Business Entity Fees
Nevada’s Articles fee is only one part of the cost of starting and maintaining many businesses. For an LLC, the initial list and State Business License materially change the real first-year total.
| Service or filing | Current listed fee | Practical note |
|---|---|---|
| Public ORION entity search | Free | Use before paying for copies, certificates or formation services. |
| Nevada LLC Articles of Organization | $75 | This is not the full LLC startup cost by itself. |
| LLC Initial List | $150 | Required as part of the Nevada LLC compliance package. |
| LLC State Business License | $200 | Most LLCs must maintain the license annually unless exempt. |
| Typical domestic LLC startup total | $425 | $75 Articles + $150 Initial List + $200 State Business License when all standard requirements apply. |
| LLC annual list + business license | $350 | $150 annual list plus $200 State Business License. |
| Corporation State Business License | $500/year | The corporation annual-list fee is additional and can vary with authorized shares. |
| Name reservation | $25 | Reserves an eligible Nevada entity name for 90 days. |
| Certificate of corporate existence | $50 | Formal corporate existence/status proof when a recipient requires it. |
| Certification of a corporate copy | $30 | Certification fee; document-copy charges can be additional. |
| SOS document copies | $2 per page | Check ORION first to see what information or images are already accessible. |
Check Nevada Commercial Recordings forms and fees.
- Confirm the exact entity type.
- Check whether an Initial or Annual List is also required.
- Check the State Business License amount for that entity.
- Review any default or late penalties.
- Use ORION’s final filing total as the current transaction amount.
Nevada Business Name Availability & Reservation
The free ORION search is useful for screening a proposed business name, but Nevada states that name availability cannot be guaranteed until the filing is approved.
- Search the exact proposed name.
- Search only the most distinctive words.
- Try spacing, abbreviation, number and spelling variations.
- Remove LLC, Inc., Corporation, Company and punctuation for a broader check.
- Review close matches before buying signage, domains or branding.
A Nevada name reservation currently costs $25 and reserves the name for 90 days, subject to availability.
Certificates, Copies & Business-License Proof
Search the entity before buying formal proof. In many situations, the public ORION record is enough to identify the company and review status, while banks, courts or other institutions may require a certificate or certified filing.
Certificate or certified copy
Use these only when a recipient specifically asks for official Secretary of State documentation. Corporate statutory fees include $50 for a certificate of corporate existence and $30 to certify certain corporate copies.
State Business License copy
Nevada currently lists a $2 fee for a copy of a State Business License. The request must come from business letterhead or a confirmed associate of the business.
What Nevada Registered-Agent Information Means
A Nevada registered agent provides an official in-state contact for service of process and other legal notices. The agent’s address can appear repeatedly across unrelated companies.
Noncommercial registered agent
Nevada says an individual or entity with a physical Nevada address may serve as a noncommercial registered agent if it does not act as registered agent for 10 or more entities on file.
Commercial registered agent
Commercial registered agents register with the Secretary of State and may represent many businesses. Shared agent information is not evidence of common ownership.
Read Nevada registered-agent guidance.
Nevada DBA / Fictitious Firm Name Records Are Local
A legal LLC or corporation name is registered with the Nevada Secretary of State, but a DBA or fictitious firm name can be handled at the county or city level depending on the jurisdiction.
Nevada’s State Business License FAQ specifically distinguishes a sole proprietor’s legal name from an associated DBA and directs DBA/fictitious-firm-name matters to the appropriate local jurisdiction.
Open Nevada SOS business resources for county-clerk DBA information.
What “Default” and “Revoked” Mean in Nevada
A missed annual filing can move a Nevada entity into default. Nevada’s LLC statute adds a penalty to a defaulted annual list, and the Secretary of State explains that entities remaining in default for about a year can move into revoked status.
| Status issue | What to check | Likely next step |
|---|---|---|
| Default | Annual List, State Business License and any applicable penalties. | File the overdue requirements and pay the amounts shown by ORION. |
| Revoked | Back annual lists, penalties, State Business License fees and reinstatement requirements. | Use Nevada’s reinstatement/revival process rather than forming a duplicate business without first reviewing the old entity. |
Nevada Business Search Troubleshooting
| Problem | Best next step |
|---|---|
| Old SilverFlume link no longer works | Start again from the Nevada SOS Business page or current ORION public search. |
| No result by exact name | Search fewer distinctive words and remove LLC, Inc., punctuation and filler words. |
| Too many similar entities | Compare NV Business ID, Entity Number, type, formation date, agent and status. |
| Entity is in Default | Check both the Annual List and State Business License obligations rather than fixing only one item. |
| Entity is Revoked | Review reinstatement/revival requirements and all back fees before submitting anything. |
| Need a DBA search | Check the appropriate county or city fictitious-firm-name records; ORION is not a complete local DBA database. |
| Need professional-license proof | Use the Nevada agency or licensing board responsible for that profession; SOS entity registration is not professional licensure. |

Nevada Business Entity Search FAQ
1. Is the Nevada business entity search free?
Yes. Nevada provides a public business entity search through ORION. Fees apply to filings, State Business Licenses, annual lists, reservations, certificates, certified copies and other paid services.
2. What is the current official Nevada business-search portal?
Use the Nevada Secretary of State’s ORION public Business Search. The state’s current business-services page directs users to ORION for business searches and online Commercial Recordings services.
3. Is SilverFlume still the current Nevada business portal?
No. Nevada has moved current business services to ORION. Older articles and state pages may still contain SilverFlume references, so use the current Nevada SOS Business page or ORION when an old link causes confusion.
4. What is the difference between a Nevada Entity Number and NV Business ID?
The Entity Number identifies the Secretary of State entity record. The NV Business ID is a separate unique Nevada business identifier that may be used when registering with other state agencies. Neither is a federal EIN.
5. How much does a Nevada LLC pay each year?
A typical Nevada LLC pays $150 for its annual list plus $200 for the State Business License, for a standard recurring state total of $350 before any late penalties or optional services.
6. How much is the Nevada State Business License for a corporation?
The annual State Business License fee is $500 for corporations. The corporation’s annual-list fee is additional and starts at $150, with higher tiers based on authorized shares.
7. How much does a Nevada name reservation cost and how long does it last?
A Nevada business-name reservation currently costs $25 and reserves an eligible name for 90 days, subject to availability.
8. What is the difference between Default and Revoked in Nevada?
Default generally means a required filing or fee is overdue. Nevada states that entities remaining in default for about a year can move into revoked status. Reinstatement can require overdue filings, penalties, business-license fees and a reinstatement charge.
9. Where do I file or search a Nevada DBA or fictitious firm name?
DBA and fictitious-firm-name filings are handled locally by the appropriate county or city jurisdiction rather than being fully handled through the Secretary of State entity registry.
10. Does a Nevada SOS record prove a business has every required license?
No. The SOS record and State Business License do not automatically prove compliance with every local, professional, occupational, tax, zoning, insurance or industry-specific requirement. Check the responsible agency when those issues matter.
